Teenagers rescued from Eyemouth coast

Two teenage girls were rescued from a Scottish Borders coastline yesterday after being swept into the sea.

The girls were both caught by heavy waves at Eyemouth at around 3:30pm. Katie MacLean, aged 14, was knocked unconscious before being rescue by police, and airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The other girl, aged 13, was pulled ashore by members of the public and suffered no serious injuries.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said:

"Two teenage girls were swept into the sea by heavy waves."The 13-year-old suffered no serious injury. However, the 14-year-old girl was airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she is in a serious condition."
