Carlisle handed League Cup home tie

Carlisle United were this morning handed a home draw in the first round of next season's League Cup.

The Blues will meet Accrington Stanley at Brunton Park, and that's good news for season ticket holders, who'll get into the match for free.

"We wanted to look for new ways to say thank you to our season ticket holders and we said right at the off-set that one method of doing that was to grant free entry for them for the first round fixtures in the Capital One Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, if we were drawn at home.

"It is a home draw and we are delighted to be able to welcome them into the ground for this fixture free of charge."

– John Nixon, Carlisle United Managing Director

"All you can ask for is a home draw in any knock-out competition and we're happy to have got that with this one.

"It'll be a tough game though because both sides will want to set the new season off on the right foot.

"There will be no better way to do that than with a win in this competition ahead of the first league game the following weekend, so we're going to have to be ready."

– Greg Abbott, Carlisle United Manager

The Accrington tie will be played during the week commencing 13 August 2012. But unusually, the Football League would consider requests to play on Saturday 11 or Sunday 12 if it suits both clubs involved.
