Torch route and road closure information

The Olympic torch returns to the Border region on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday (20th June) it travels from Brough through Appleby and onto Penrith before arriving for the first time in Carlisle.

On Thursday (21st June) The torch starts it's journey in Dumfries and Galloway it travels through Dumfries, Annan, Eastriggs and Gretna. It then travels through Cumbria visiting Wigton, Aspatria, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth Keswick, Grasmere, and Ambleside before finishing at Bowness where a torch celebration will carry on into the evening.

Wednesday 20th June:

Brough: Advance convoy from 3.56pm Torch bearers 4.03 - 4.08

Route: Upper Street (B6276) along New road (B6276) to 40mph sign.Road closures: 3pm - 5pm market street, upper Market street, Bridge street, Mill race and B6276 New Road.

Appleby; Advance convoy from 4.12pm torch bearers 4.19pm - 4.36pmRoute: Bondgate, the Sands, Battlebarrow to national speed limit sign.

Road closures: From 3.15 - 6pm affecting the Sands between junction with Garths Head Road and B6542 Bridge Street.

CREW BREAK

Road closures: Between 4pm and 7pm: A6 from King street Co-op to glen Cottage hotel, U3501 LIttle Dockray from Middlegate to Cornmarket, A6 Market square (west bound), U3538 Rowcliffe Lane (from Crown square to Market square), Devonshire Street (from Middlegate to Market Square), Middlegate (from Brunswick Road to Devonshire street), Southend Road South (from Victoria Road/Bridge lane to Ullswater FE centre).

Carlisle: Torch and convoy arriving around 18.06

Route: Warwick road, Victoria Place, Spencer street, Warwick Road, The Crescent, English street, Castle street, Finkle street, Fisher street, Market Street, West Tower street, Dacre road, Bitts Park.

There'll be a rolling road closure, police outriders will stop traffic at all junctions until the cavalcade passes, after which the road will reopen.

Warwick road (5.45 - 6.30 from junction with M6 Junction 43 to junction with Victoria Place)

Victoria place: (5.45- 6.30 from Junction with Warwick Road to junction with Spencer Street)

English Street (6.30 - 6.45 from junction with victoria viaduct to Castle street / Scotch street) Bank Street (midday until 7pm)

Castle street, Finkle Street, Fisher street and Market street between 6.15pm - 6.45pm

Devonshire walk: 8am - midnight (from junction with Mayors drive to junction with Castle way)

Dacre road 8am - midnight (from junction with Devonshire walk to junction with West Tower Street)

Mayors drive 8am - midnight (from junction with Devonshire walk to Sheepmount athletics stadium)

Castleway 6.40 - 6.45 (both east and west bound slip roads to west tower street)

Parking restrictions: No parking on Finkle street 7am - 7pm. No parking on Castle street, St Mary's Gate Fisher street and Market street from midday to 7pm.

Blue badge holders will not be able to park in the city centre.

Music and celebrations 20 minutes before the torch arrival.

The route: Church street (B721) Scott's Street to the B721 roundabout.

Eastriggs: celebrations from 08.45 torch convoy: 09.05 - 09.20

Route: Waterhead pier, across Windermere by steamer to Bowness pier, Promenade, Glebe road, evening celebrations on the Glebe.

Road closures: U5770 Glebe road 3pm Wednesday 20th June until 11am Friday 22nd June from the A592 junction to caravan site at Braithwaite fold. A592 Lake road from 7pm -9pm.
