Virgin have lost the West Coast Mainline franchise.
Since 1997 the now familiar Virgin Trains have been a near constant sight on the West Coast Mainline.
In that time the rail operator has seen passenger numbers more than double and in the past 12 months punctuality has been almost 90%.
But all is not well at Virgin Trains. The rival First Group apparently bid more for the contract.
Rather than welcome the potential change in operator, the Rail Union RMT warned of job cuts and worsening services and says that it will ballot members over industrial action.
