Michelle Rothwell is not your everyday fitness enthusiast. In fact she is now part of an elite club of endurance athletes... one of just 10 people to have ever completed the gruelling Arc to Arch Challenge, and the fastest ever woman to do so in 91 hours and 25 minutes, smashing the previous best by 5 hours.
The endurance event is often described as one of the hardest ever to have been dreamt up. Leaving Marble Arch in London and ending up at the Arc d'Triomphe in Paris, it involves:
- An 87 mile run from London to Dover.
- A 24 mile swim across the channel (almost certainly much longer because of currents and tides).
- A 181 mile cycle from Calais to Paris.
With only brief stops between each event, it's no surprise that the majority who attempt the challenge don't finish it. Michelle took part in the challenge in memory of her cousin Richard Scowcroft who died from cancer. The money Michelle has raised will go to local charity Cancer Care who helped look after Richard before he died.
