A soldier who was shot and paralysed in Afghanistan is walking up Skiddaw in the Lake District to raise money for the charity which helped him to walk again.

Mark Harding, from Wigton, is hoping to raise £5000 for the Army Benevolent Fund.

He had been providing cover for another unit when he came under fire in May 2010. He was serving as a Lance Corporal the 1st Battalion Duke of Lancaster's Regiment when a sniper's bullet shattered the vertebrae in his neck, paralysing him from the neck down.

He will be supported by a team made up of fellow soldiers, firemen and employees from Wigton-based Innovia Films Ltd.
