Crime almost halved in Galashiels
Crime has nearly halved at a notorious area of Galashiels since the start of a community programme 2 years ago.
A pledge was taken by various groups to work closely with residents of Church Square to clear up rubbish and reduce anti-social behaviour. Since then crime has been reduced by nearly 50%.
– Local resident"You don't see as much crime here, there isn't really any graffiti, you don't see things getting broken and torn to bits because it's not lying around anymore. It shows there is a strong local enforcement helping the community get better."
