More than two and a half thousand fans turn out for Murphy's testimonial

Carlisle's longest serving player could not have asked for more from a day marking his eleven years at the club. He got one of the rare sunny days of 2012. He got more than sixty of his old friends and colleagues back to Brunton Park to help him celebrate and the fans came in good numbers and even better spirits. The Brunton Park faithful had to be reasonably pleased themselves. They got to see a veritable who's who of United's big names of the past twenty years. They got to see Grant Holt finally donning a Carlisle United shirt, albeit one of the Legends variety, and they got to see their cult hero Jimmy glass recreate the goal that wrote him into the clubs folklore to wrap things up.

The Legends team eventually triumphed 4-3 but the match was really just an excuse for the fans to show their appreciation of Peter Murphy and a host of their other heroes from days gone by. We asked Peter what today meant to him:
