A man is driving through Cumbria and southern Scotland on a lawnmower. Phil Voice set off on the machine from his home in Bergerac in France and will finish in John O Groats this weekend. On Thursday he journeyed through Cumbria and into southern Scotland. He's doing to raise money for a charity called HortAid, which helps people who work in the horticulture industry who are struggling with various issues. Phil is travelling along minor routes to try and avoid traffic but says the reaction he has been receiving has surprised him.
– Phil Voice, speaking from his lawnmower
I've not had one lorry or car driver whose given me any kind of dissenting signal, they've all been thumbs up, shouting at the window and waving at me, even stopping in one village and thrusting money in my hand, three elderly gentlemen who were very impressed with what we were doing"
Phil is calling his challenge his Mowerthon. He hopes to raise £10,000. You can follow his progress and find out more about the charity he is supporting here: http://www.hortaid.org.uk/
