Police are warning motorists to avoid Whitehaven town centre because of the threat of localised flooding.Heavy rainfall and a high tide means the following streets will be temporarily closed by Cumbria police for safety regions:

  • Market Street
  • Tangier Street
  • Roper Street
  • Lowther Street
  • Coach Road

There are reports that parts of Hensingham are experiencing flooding. Police will be diverting traffic from the Pelican Garage and Inkerman Terrace in Whitehaven.

No evacuations have taken place at this time however police are in the local area, providing advice to residents and businesses.
