Around 30 school pupils from Kirkcudbright Primary School have hosted a mock VE-Day style party.

The children, who are all in Primary Seven, have been learning about World War Two and invited 150 elderly people from the local community to join in with the fun.

Many popular wartime songs were brought back to life as the pupils performed for their guests, who enjoyed reminiscing about times gone by.

"We've been singing songs and you know all of these songs, it was wonderful to hear them again. We were joining in as well as we could and I was remembering things that had happened to me during the war too"

– Helen Pearce, guest.

The children also read pieces of poetry and told stories about what life was like for children growing up during the war.

Afterwards, they treated their guests to war-themed cakes that they had baked and decorated.
