Thousands compete to become the Lake District's Total Warrior

Thousands of runners are competing to be crowned the Lake District's Total Warrior King of the Mountain.

The 10k and 10 mile runs near Shap this weekend are billed as the 'toughest obstacle courses on earth'.

As well as fun running through rivers and woodland, competitors have to deal with 25 to 30 obstacles designed by ex-military personnel.

It's a test of strength, stamina, mental determination and teamwork and success is about survival as well as speed.

The event started in the Lake District and now in its fourth year, there's also one in Leeds.

The obstacles have names like 'Human BBQ', 'Dunking Time', 'Muddy Funster', 'Peaks of Pain', 'Sheep Dip', 'Death Valley' and 'Worm Muncher'.
