How would you cope if you were told your chosen career was over?
For Brendan Richardson it so nearly was - his hand was crushed in an accident while on a college course three years ago.
Over time his hand began to heal, but the injury didn't just drain him physically:
With help, Brendan overcame his struggles with depression.
And in September he began an apprenticeship with a local painting firm.
He's got his life back on track, and his new employer says apprentices can be a real help to businesses:
- There are currently more than 5,500 apprenticeship schemes - that's down 290 on two years ago
- An estimated eight out of ten apprentices will get work after their scheme finishes
