Queen of the South football club have cancelled the Boomtown Rats concert that was due to take place on 4 June because of low ticket sales.

The 1980s themed concert, at Palmerston Park, was also going to feature Rick Astley, ABC, The Stars from The Commitments and The Rezillos.

But in a statement released today, the club says low advanced ticket sales mean the gig isn't commercially viable.

We are extremely disappointed to have to announce the cancellation of the Concert at Queens, which was due to take place on Saturday 4 June. This was a difficult decision to make as we know many people were looking forward to it.

However, it has become apparent with three weeks to go that advance ticket sales of around 700, which were much lower than the 5000 sold last year, were not sufficient to justify the event going ahead on a commercial basis.

The club says all customers who have already bought tickets will be refunded in full, with cheques being issued over the next week.

They say they "have not been helped with the number of alternative outdoor festivals and concerts across Scotland and the North of England."
