An appeal is being issued to find new parents for the 45 children in Cumbria waiting to be adopted.

Cumbria County Council is calling on people to consider adoption and says there's no such thing as a typical adoptive parent.

“Children need families from all sorts of different backgrounds. Whether you are married or single, divorced or living with a partner, gay or straight, unemployed or disabled, and whatever your cultural background adoption may be for you.

“We understand that for most people it is a big decision. Whatever people’s reasons for wanting to adopt, our supportive team will be there for you throughout.”

“Please look out on Facebook and Twitter for our messages and details of the events we’ll be holding locally; and tell your friends and family.”

– Cllr Anne Burns, Cumbria County Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services

The council is hosting a series of information events for people wanting to find out more. They are taking place on the following dates and times:

  • Workington - Thursday 6 April - 6.15pm - The Melbreak Hotel
