Have you ever seen a ferret trekking along Hadrian's Wall and tucking into some pub grub?

Well, now you have. We joined 22-year-old Charlie Hammerton and his faithful ferret, Bandit, on their 84-mile journey from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, as they raised £3,000 for the St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich and the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

The RAF Coningsby-based Airman said he did it in memory of his mother, who passed away last month.

It’s been a rollercoaster emotionally with a few tough moments; my ankle was so sore at one point I had to take my boots off and walk barefoot for some four miles! But the overriding memory will be the amazing landscape and the welcome from so many people we have met along the way. Thanks to the media coverage at the start lots of people recognised us and Bandit has enjoyed all the attention.

I couldn’t have done it without my girlfriend Isobel who has been our vital back up team and in charge of keeping us fed and walking.
