A west Cumbrian man has been jailed for carrying out a knife attack.

John Conaway, 41, from Workington, was sentenced to seven and a half years today at Carlisle Crown Court for Grievous Bodily Harm.

The attack happened shortly after 11pm on 16 March on Workington's Firth View Walk. Conaway stabbed a 32-year-old man in the chest following a disagreement over money.

He admitted to the stabbing and possession of an offensive weapon at a hearing earlier this week.

“This was a violent attack which Conaway deserves time in prison for.

“The victim was very fortunate not to have suffered more severe injuries.

“This type of violence will simply not be tolerated and we are pleased that Conaway is being taken out of society.”
