Strikes at further education colleges in Scotland have come to an end as the EIS Union and employers have reached agreement.

Lecturers had been planning to hold more strikes but in a statement, the union and Colleges Scotland say all industrial action has been suspended.

The row was over staff claims that college managers were failing to honour a pay deal agreed a year ago.

"We are pleased that we’ve reached an agreement, subject to ratification, which not only means an end to the strikes but also, crucially, ensures that colleges can return to business as usual. This isa positive step forward for everyone involved."

– Colleges Scotland Employers’ Association spokesperson

"This is a significant victory for EIS-FELA members and it means that the employers will move immediately to implement Phase 1 of the March 2016 pay agreement.”

– EIS General Secretary Larry Flanagan
