Cumbria County Council has received £4.6million from the Department for Transport to improve local roads, cut congestion and improve journey times, as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF).
The A69, Warwick road, from Junction 43 to Eastern Way will be refurbished using some of the funds.
An additional traffic lane will be added to the route between the Montgomery Way and Eastern Way junctions. The improvements will require:
- the carriageway being widened slightly in a number of locations
- traffic islands being repositioned
- road markings being altered
- traffic signals being upgraded
The council say the aim is to reduce traffic congestion within the area of the city and improve access to housing and employment sites.
The proposed works are set to start early in 2018. Cumbria County Council say local residents should get in touch with them with any concerns or suggestions.
A drop-in session is planned for Monday 19 June, between 4 and 7pm at the Shepherds Inn, Rosehill, Carlisle.
