More than 2,000 people have signed a petition opposing plans to create an extra lane on a main route through Carlisle.

The £1million project by Cumbria County Council would add an extra lane on Warwick Road between the Rosehill Industrial Estate and Eastern Way,

The council says it will review the feedback from residents and reconsider its plans for the road.

Homes on this stretch of road were hit by the floods in December 2015 and the residents say they've just got their lives back to normal after the flooding, but now face more upset over the traffic plans.

The plan comes after Cumbria County Council secured £4.6million to upgrade roads across the county.

Cumbria County Council met with members of the local community on Monday night to discuss the proposed Warwick Road scheme.

"The meeting was productive and a range of feedback was received, which the council will review and consider thoroughly before any decisions on the proposed plans are made.

"The consultation deadline has been extended until Friday 14 July and can be accessed via the council website here. Alternatively, you can email feedback to npif@cumbria.gov.uk.”
