The family of Skye Mitchell, one of the teenagers killed on the A595 on Friday night, has described her as a popular, kind, caring girl.

The 18-year-old from Millom died along with Caitlin Huddleston when their car collided with a white van just north of Bootle. The back seat passenger, also an 18-year-old woman, is critically ill in hospital.

Skye's family said she made the most of her 18 years, embracing every opportunity that came her way.

Skye made the world a better place and Skye’s world was a wonderful world to be in.

The teenager, from Millom, won the Junior Miss North West title in 2014. Her family says she excelled in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths), at school and loved animals, especially dogs. She was going to study Broadcast Journalism at Salford University in September.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to Friday night's crash to get in touch.
