A teacher accused of groping a girl told police the allegations made against him are "not true", a jury has heard.

26-year-old David Harrison is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court having pleaded not guilty to four charges. Each alleges that he sexually assaulted a girl aged under 13.

Harrison stands accused of putting his hands down the front of the girl's top, on several occasions, before rubbing her chest.

This, she told a police officer, made her feel "uncomfortable".

In light of her allegations, jurors heard today, Wednesday 26 July that Harrison was arrested and then interviewed by police. He had stated: "None of that is true."

He was asked about a specific incident mentioned by the girl, who reported being sat on the floor, between his legs, as he allegedly touched her.

"Again, not true," he told police.

Harrison, of Friars Garth, Abbeytown, also maintained during that interview: "I have not sexually assaulted (the girl)."

The trial continues.
