Arrests made following Norfolk Street assault involving weapon believed to be a machete

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault involving a weapon believed to be a machete.

The incident happened on Norfolk Street, Carlisle, on the afternoon of Wednesday 13 September.

Police were called at 4.27pm following a report of a man being assaulted with a bladed weapon.

The victim, a 19-year-old male from Carlisle, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with serious injuries to his hand.

He has since been discharged.

Enquiries have continued throughout the night and police have arrested a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both from Carlisle, on suspicion of assault GBH with intent.

They are both detained for questioning.

Cumbria Constabulary said:

Officers have worked throughout the night conducting enquiries into this serous assault.

I would like to reassure members of the public that, following the arrests of two men this morning, we are not looking for any further suspects at this time.”
