The incident happened at a house in Carnegie Street in Dumfries.

The break-in was discovered by a 75 year-old homeowner on Friday 8 September.

The officer leading the investigation said:

Inquiries in relation to this incident have been continually ongoing since it was reported.

Following an excellent response from members of the public we have managed to recover a substantial quantity of stolen property, as well as apprehending those responsible for this shocking crime.

This will provide some comfort to the elderly victim who has understandably been affected by the incident.

The investigation is still very much ongoing and I would again like to appeal to members of the public to get in touch with us if they believe they have information in respect of this matter. As previously highlighted a large quantity of £100 notes were stolen during the raid and I am particularly keen to hear from anybody who may have been offered £100 notes in recent days or from anybody who has received £100 notes through their business."
