The Scottish Borders has one of the highest percentages of waste sent to landfill in the country, according to new figures from the Environment Protection Agency.

30,702
tonnes of rubbish was binned (59.1%).
39%
of household waste was recycled (20,264 tonnes).

The Borders figure has fallen from 60.9% in 2015, but is short of the national average percentage of household waste being sent to landfill, which is 45.3%.

Scottish Borders Council says it's developing a new waste management plan which aims to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
