Man arrested following police chase across Borders

A man has been arrested following a pursuit involving Cumbria Constabulary and Police Scotland.

Cumbria Constabulary were contacted at 9.58am today by Police Scotland as part of a pursuit they were involved in which entered Cumbria.

Following the pursuit, which began in Lockerbie, a red Audi was stopped and crashed at slow speed into the HSBC bank on Market Square, Penrith.

A man has since been arrested on suspicion of offences under investigation by Police Scotland.

The driver is believed to have suffered a minor injury which did not require medical attention.

No pedestrians were injured or involved in the incident.

Superintendent Mark Pannone said:

This was a fast moving incident which involved Cumbria Constabulary officers working with colleagues from Police Scotland and the incident was brought swiftly to a conclusion.

I would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we have dealt with this incident in Penrith town centre.”
