An 85-year-old woman has had her purse stolen after two women entered her home in Dumfries and claimed to be there to discuss caring arrangements.

It happened sometime around 3.05pm on Wednesday 7 March at the Granary retirement flats in Glebe Street.

After the two thieves left the flat, the elderly woman noticed her purse had been stolen, which contained bank and credit cards.

The first woman officers want to trace is described as follows:

  • early 20s
  • Asian/Mediterranean appearance
  • about 5'5" tall
  • dark hair
  • hard faced
  • wearing a dark brown hooded jacket
  • spoke in broken English

The second woman officers want to trace is only described as:

  • similar Asian/Mediterranean appearance
  • slightly older than the first woman

Dumfries and Galloway Police said this was a disgusting offence and they want to speak to anyone who can help identify the two women:

This was a disgusting distraction type theft on an elderly victim in her own home. We want to hear from anyone who may have been about the Glebe Street area yesterday and saw anything suspicious, or can help identify these two females."
