Police appeal for dog walker witness in Carlisle sex assault investigation

Police investigating a serious sex assault in Carlisle are appealing for a potential witness who was seen walking their dog in the area at the time of the attack to come forward.

A 30-year-old woman was assaulted in the city centre late on Friday 11 May.

The dog walker was seen in the area of Victoria Place between 10.45pm and 11.30pm.

Police believe the dog walker may have seen the victim.

The victim, who was visiting the city, is being supported at this time.

She is described as:

  • being in her 30s
  • of slim build
  • wearing skinny jeans with a red top or pink hoody
  • having brown hair which was tied back in a plait
  • and a Merseyside accent

Police say she may have attempted to flag down cars in the areas off Botchergate towards Warwick Road.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Harkins of North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said:

Numerous enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible for this attack and we require the public’s help to do so. Their information could be helpful to our enquires so I urge them to contact us.”
