Storm Hector batters the Borders area with 71mph gusts

Forecasters upgraded weather warnings for Storm Hector, which brought gusts of more than 70mph.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency issued flood warnings for Loch Ryan and Wigtown Bay.

Rail travel is also being affected on the West Coast Mainline, with Virgin Trains advising passengers not to travel north of Preston until Friday. Scotrail services were also delayed by fallen trees and even a trampoline on the line.

The storm, bringing wet as well as windy weather, will move across Scotland and the north of England.

Such stormy weather is "quite unusual for this time of year" forecaster Luke Miall said.
