The father of a Borders student who died following a crash at the weekend is appealing for information on his son's last steps.

20-year-old George Crawford from Melrose died after being hit by a car in Newport in the early hours of Sunday morning.

George was studying agriculture at Newport's Harper Adams University.

Police say there were difficulties in the investigation which led to the misidentification of George.

His father, Cameron Crawford, published an emotional appeal online:

"We are desperate for any information - people he was with or even the name of the pub he was in. No-one is coming forward. Please help Mary and I to understand his last few hours.

"We are completely heartbroken that no one wants to talk to us. To know how your son led his last hours is all we want to know. Please help us."
