Gerry Rusbridge, Senior Advisor for Natural England:

"Opening up the coastal path in Cumbria and across England will have health and economic benefits.

"Our vision is for people to be able to go to the coast and turn left or right knowing they'll have properly signed footpaths to walk along.

"In a lot of places between Allonby and Whitehaven there are already footpaths and this is now about making sure they join up properly."

A consultation into the plans has now started and will run until August 3rd.
