Scotland's First Minister has defended his Government's delay in making a decision on same sex marriage laws.
There was anger from equality campaigners and opposition politicians yesterday when a widely expected announcement was put on hold.
Alex Salmond says a decision will be taken by the end of the month but more time is needed to look at the details.
The government has now set up a special committee chaired by deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to examine the legal issues.
But it rejected calls from Catholic leader Cardinal Keith O’Brien for a referendum
