At 8.12 this morning people all over the country have rang bells to mark precisely 12 hours to the opening of the London Olympic games.
Featured as part of the cultural Olympiad, experienced change ringing experts of tower bells to enthusiastic children with hand bells, bicycle bells and even doorbells rang out.
Among the bells that peeled were those of Carlisle Cathedral.
