Flash floods in Borders

Parts of the Borders have been hit by flash floods this afternoon. Roads, houses and schools have been affected.

This viewer footage shows how the village of Clovenfords in the Scottish Borders had to deal with flash flooding.

Water can be seen flowing down the street and out of people's gardens. A person is also seen emptying water out of a house.

Parts of the Borders hit by flash floods this afternoon

Parts of the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria have been hit by flash flooding this afternoon. Roads, houses and even schools have been affected by heavy downpours.

Police in Dumfries and Galloway are tonight dealing with flooding in the Langholm area which has brought rocks and debris onto the A7 - the main route through the Borders. The incident is two miles south of Langholm at Auchenrivock. Drivers can get past but are asked to avoid the area if possible.

In the Borders, 70 pupils were kept in after school because of flooding at Galashiels Academy. The weather is calmer now but if you should be worried about your property flooding, fire stations in the Borders have been opened for residents to collect sandbags.
