Galashiels is the first town in the South of Scotland to be given a special award for having a safe town centre.

Galashiels celebrates safe town award
Galashiels Safer Town Partnership won the award for their work making the town centre a safe place to shop.
Since it started 12 months ago, shoplifting has fallen by nearly 20%.
The scheme targets retail crime, including forged notes, shoplifting and fraud.
Galashiels given safe town award
The town of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders has been given the first ever Safer Town Centre Award in Scotland.
The prestigious award is the result of partnership working between a number of organisations including; the local council, the police and the Chamber of Trade.
