Plea to relatives of Wallace Hall Academy children

A campaigner from Closeburn is making a final plea to trace the families of twenty two former village school children who were killed during World War Two.

Jayne Thomas has been working hard to repair and clean-up the current war memorial next to the former Wallace Hall Academy.

Plaques were erected and trees were planted in memory of the school's former pupils who died sixty-five years ago, however the site has since fallen into disrepair.

New plaques were made after funding was provided from Scottish Hydro Clyde Community Fund via the Nith Valley Leaf Trust

To mark the 65th anniversary, a special memorial service will be held at Closeburn war memorial on 11th November.

Relatives of the former pupils and war veterans are invited to attend.

They're urged to contact Jayne on 01848 332352 or by email at closeburnmemorialtrees@gmail.com.
