Part of A66 shut following crash

UPDATE: A66 reopens

A stretch of the A66 which has been shut for most of the day following a crash has been reopened. The road, between Penrith and Appleby, was closed for recovery work after a head on crash involving two lorries. Both drivers were airlifted to hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.

A66 could be closed for another two hours

Cumbria Police say the A66 could be closed until 4 pm. It's been shut while recovery work takes place following a head on crash between two lorries. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to hospital.

The stretch of the A66 between Penrith and Appleby is currently closed. Diversions are in place.

A66 near Penrith closed following crash

The A66 east of Penrith, near Center Parcs, is currently closed while rescue and recovery work takes place following a crash.

Cumbria Police say diversions are in place. Motorists can use the A65 and A69, the A685 can be used at Brough to join the M6 for westbound traffic but height and weight restrictions apply to the route.
