Major search of Carlisle river for missing man
A major air and land search of the River Eden in Carlisle is underway. A Sea King helicopter from RAF Bulmour in Northumberland is assisting. They say they are looking for a man missing since Saturday.
Police and rescue teams join major search for missing Carlisle fisherman
Police, coastguards, the RNLI and a Sea King helicopter are searching the River Eden in Carlisle for a man who vanished after fishing there on Friday. The wide scale operation was launched this morning and is stretching from the Eden to the Solway Firth.
An RNLI lifeboat from Silloth has joined with Coastguard teams from Annan, Maryport and Brough by Sands to search the water way while police teams comb the river bank. A control centre for the operation has been set up at Carlisle's Sheepmount stadium.
The identity of the missing man hasn't yet been released. A Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer is also searching from the air using thermal imaging equipment.

A Sea King helicopter is flying over the River Eden in Carlisle. Witnesses say the craft appears to be searching the water. Cumbria Police say they're unable to comment at the moment but hope to release a statement shortly.
