One of our region's most successful motorsport drivers spends most of his time racing in venues around the world, when he's not relaxing in Monaco with his family. Allan McNish began his career karting in Dumfries. He was on a rare visit to his hometown today.
Sportscar legend Allan McNish was back in his home town of Dumfries, and was full of praise for local driving talent:
Allan McNish admitted that 2012 was a difficult season and said he is hoping to land the top prize in 2013.

Despite having lived in Monaco for years, he says he still enjoys visiting his home town and taking his mum out for lunch.
He only managed to make it back four times last year, as his racing commitments take up most of his time:
The two time winner of the Le Mans 24 hour race now lives in Monte Carlo but returns to Dumfries today to outline his plans for the 2013 motorsport season.
It's believed his first race will be the Rolex 24 at Daytona florida on the 26-27 January.
