Cumbrian cash boost will 'help companies grow'

Five million pounds is being invested in to west Cumbria's manufacturing, with the hope that the cash boost will help companies grow and create new jobs.

The money is coming from Britain's Energy Coast, a body which encouraged economic investment into the area.

It has awarded the first grant to a company who specialise in making astro turf pitches.

Britain's Energy Coast have awarded £45,000 to Maryport firm 'Support in Sport' (SiS), who specialise in making astro turf pitches.

The grant is part of a five million pounds investment into Cumbria's manufacturing industry.

SiS Manufacturing Ltd, who are based at Glasson Industrial Estate, recently manufactured and installing an artificial pitch for Premiership rugby club Saracens at their new ground in London.

The club are to the first professional rugby union club to play on a fully artificial pitch.

The money is coming from Britain's Energy Coast who have awarded the first £45,000 to Maryport firm 'Support in Sport' who specialise in making astro turf pitches.

Businesses of any size, can apply for grants of £10,000 upwards for investment in fixed assets such as land, buildings, plant and equipment as well as Research and Development.

Businesses can apply for the grant by visiting the Britain's energy coast website.
