In 1972 the first man on the moon visited Langholm to trace his Scottish ancestry.

Organisers over the moon with plans to celebrate Armstrong's life

A series of events is being planned to commemorate and celebrate the life of Langholm's most famous son- Neil Armstrong.

In particular, community leaders, are appealing to locals to come forward and share their memories of the famous day when the first man on the moon was given the 'Freedom of the Burgh', in 1972.

Armstrong is said to have descendants from the area and remains the towns only Freeman.
