Dancing on synchronised ice

Dozens of young people are taking part in one of the biggest events in the synchronised ice skating calendar in Dumfries. The International Synchronised Skating Competition Trophy D'Ecosse has attracted 43 teams from UK, Germany and South Africa.

Sophie Haining from Dumfries was part of the Solway Stars and Solway Eclipse synchronised skating teams, who picked up gold and silver medals in the Trophy D'Ecosse.

She said:

"It was an amazing experience to be part of both teams, and to have been representing Great Britain.

"To get gold and silver is just amazing."

All three teams representing Dumfries, (the Solway Stars, Solway Eclipse and Solway Lightening), picked up medals.

The three teams are now Scottish Champions at their respective levels.

Around 2,000 competitors teams, coaches and spectators attended the competition at Dumfries ice-bowl over the weekend.

Dumfries synchronised skaters triumphed at the Trophy D'Ecosse competition at the weekend, beating teams from Africa and Germany.

The competition was held at Dumfries ice-bowl and attracted hundreds of spectators, as well as teams from all over the UK, Europe and Africa.

The results were:

Junior-

1st- Wight Jewels (Isle of Wight)

2nd- Solway Stars (Dumfries)

Advance Novice-

1st- Solway Eclipse (Dumfries)

2nd- Team Berlin (Berlin)

3rd- Team Silhouette (Cape Town)

Elementary-

1st- Solway Lightening (Dumfries)

2nd- Wight Sparkles (Isle of Wight)

Competition on ice hots up

Dozens of young skaters are taking to the ice this weekend in one of the biggest synchronised ice dancing competitions in the world.

The International Synchronised Skating Competition Trophy d'Ecosse takes place today and tomorrow at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

There are 43 teams taking part from across the UK, Germany and South Africa.

The Solway Sk8ing Club has three teams competing: Solway Stars, Solway Eclipse and, making their debut in the competition, Solway Lightening.
