PCS union members strike in Carlisle city centre
Thousands of civil servants are striking over pay and pensions. The protest coincides with this year's Budget.
The Scottish Government has estimated that around 1,283 workers from its core and main agencies are on strike, equating to around 18% of Government staff.
A spokeswoman for the Government said:
"Main Scottish Government and agency buildings have remained open and arrangements are in place to ensure essential business continues."
– Cheryl Gedling, PCS Union member"There's clearly going to be a further cut in the grant that Scotland gets to fund some of the the things the Scottish Government wants to do.
"That's going to hit our workers even harder than we've already been hit.
"There's been two years of pay freezes and our members have had enough."
Civil servants are striking outside of the Scottish Government headquarters ahead of the budget.
It is thought that up to 250,000 Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) members could walk out today in protest over pensions, pay and working conditions.
