Festival of the Horse begins

An annual celebration celebrating the Festival of the horse has begun.

Equestrian events will be held in the Borders over the next 10 days.

A range of demonstrations, rides and other events will be held to celebrate all things equestrian.

Floors Castle Horse Trials is one of the events on this weekend that is connected to the festival.

"This year we have a wide variety of events going on, there are horse trials, there is titling, there is guided rides, demonstrations, there is really something for everyone wether they are horsey or not."

Floors Castle Horse Trials gets underway

Classes for younger horses have been held at Floors Castle Horse Trials.

It is the first time riders have had the chance to qualify for the Burghley competition at the Kelso estate.

The main eventing begins tomorrow (18th May), at 8am.

Borders Festival of the Horse

The 12th Festival of the Horse gets underway in the Scottish Borders today.

The ten day festival is a celebration of all things equine and includes a large number of events for both spectators and riders including horse trials, displays and endurance rides.

Several guided rides are held across a number of days and are a highlight of the festival calendar.

Some of the events today include:

  • “Horse Drawn, Drawn Horse” Exhibition of the Horse
  • Floors Castle Horse Trials Burghley Young Event Horse Classes
  • Guided Ride from Bowhill, Selkirk
  • Guided Ride from Lanton, Jedburgh
