Unemployment in our region is significantly lower than the national averages, according to the figures from the Office for National Statistics.
- Dumfries and Galloway: 3.7%
- Scottish Borders: 2.9%
- Cumbria: 2.6%
Unemployment has also fallen in the UK as a whole, to 7.8%, and in Scotland, to 7.1%.
Unemployment has fallen in the South of Scotland for the third month in a row - and there has also been a drop in Cumbria.
Numbers of people unemployed:
- Dumfries & Galloway: 3363, a fall of 29
- Scottish Borders: 2025, a fall of 15
- Cumbria: 8238, a fall of 217
