Biker dies in Borders crash

A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car on the A699 between Selkirk and St Boswells.

The motorcyclist who died in a collision near Selkirk on Sunday (14th July) has been named as John Southern, from Blyth, Northumberland.

The 60-year-old was riding his Triumph Tiger when he was involved in a collision with a Seat Leon car on the A699 Selkirk to St Boswells Road, near to Lindean, at around 4.30pm.

Mr Southern was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by air ambulance but later died.

The three people in the Seat Leon were taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

"Mr Southern was travelling in a large group of motorbikes on the A699 Selkirk to St Boswells Road when the collision happened.

"An investigation is underway in order to establish the circumstances, and we are appealing to any witnesses to contact Police Scotland on 101."
