Police searching for a missing 93-year-old woman in the Scottish Borders have confirmed that a body has been found.

Police and mountain rescue helicopters were searching the area around Southdean, near Hawick, where Jean Arres went missing. The body has yet to be formally identified.

Police searching for the missing 93-year-old woman Jean Arres have confirm that the body of a woman has been found in open countryside in the Southdean area.

The body has not yet been formally identified and a report will now be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Mountain Rescue searching for missing woman

Members of the Mountain Rescue and Search and Rescue Unit are helping police in their search for missing 93-year-old Jean Arres from Hawick.

"It is likely that she has gone out for a walk and got into difficulty, and we are receiving assistance from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue and the Border Search and Rescue Unit as we undertake searches of the local area.

"I would appeal to anyone who has been walking in the local area and thinks they may have seen her since she went missing to contact Police Scotland immediately.

"Anyone else with information regarding her whereabouts should also get in touch."

Police "increasingly concerned" for safety of missing Hawick woman

Police in the Scottish Borders have becoming increasingly concerned about the whereabouts and safety of a 93-year-old woman who was reported missing yesterday.

Jean Arres has not been seen since Saturday evening.

"Jean hasn't been seen or heard from since Saturday, and we are growing increasingly concerned for her safety the longer she remains missing."

Appeal to find missing Hawick woman

Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for help to trace a 93-year-old woman who has gone missing from her home outside Hawick.

Jean Arres, who stays at Whiteburn, Southdean - a rural area around ten miles to the south of Hawick - was last seen at her home around 9pm on Saturday.

She was reported missing yesterday after she failed to turn up for church.

Jean is:

  • White
  • 5 feet 2 inches tall
  • Of slight build
  • Grey hair
  • Normally wears a grey/blue jacket tied around the waist with baler twine, and cream corduroy trousers
  • Likely to be wearing wellies
