Historic Carlisle fair opened by mayor

The mayor of Carlisle Councillor Ray Bloxham opened the city fair this morning. The event dates back to when Edward III gave the city the right to hold an August annual Fair in 1352.

Great Fair opens in Carlisle

The traditional August fair was opened in Carlisle today.

It dates back to the 14th century when Edward the III granted the city the right to hold a fair.

The fair is traditionally held for 16 days and this year will include a Global Market which will run until Monday and includes products and food from places such as Poland, Germany and France.
