A key stage in the building work to bring a railway line from Edinburgh to the Borders started today.
The Edinburgh by-pass is being temporarily re-built to allow construction workers to start digging the route for the track.
Eventually it will allow trains to leave Scotland's capital for the Borders.

A bridge is being built that will carry traffic over the railway line on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
It is one of the most challenging parts of the £350 million project.
