Building work heralds start of Borders Railway

Key building work on the Borders Railway line has begun.

"This is the start of the structure of the railway bridge that will go underneath the city by-pass.

"It is a milestone in the project because we have done a lot of work over previous months to build the temporary link road.

"What people will see now is the railway starting to take shape in terms of the route of the railway, the new roads that we are constructing in and around the railway at Heriot, Falahill, and Fountainhall."

Major work begins to make way for Borders Railway

A key part of the project to build a rail track from Edinburgh to the Borders has begun.

A bridge is being built that will carry traffic over the railway line on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

It is one of the most challenging parts of the £350 million project.

100,000 tonnes of material has been used to build a temporary section of the Edinburgh by-pass, to allow building work to begin.
