Leisure Centres in South Lakeland are to be run by a new organisation.
North Country Leisure already operates in Penrith and Whitehaven, and has won the contract for the next 10 years.
Fiona Marley Paterson reports:
The Chief Executive Officer of NCL and David Sykes from South Lakeland District Council have confirmed a new partnership to run sports and recreation facilities across the district for the next ten years.
South Lakeland District Council has chosen a new company to run its leisure centres for the next 10 years.
NCL, who already run centres in Northumberland and other parts of Cumbria, will run Kendal Leisure Centre, Ulverston Leisure Centre and a smaller one in Windermere from April 2014.
The council believes it would have cost an average of £817,000 every year for the next 20 years if nothing had been done.
The new arrangement is estimated to cost around £436,000.
